Pagkatapos niyang makapagtapos sa Ateneo de Manila University sa kursong Bachelor of Arts degree in Management Economics, pinagtuunan na niya ng panahon at oras ang pag-arte.
Sa pagganap niya sa pelikulang film Bridal Shower ng Seiko Films naipakita niya ang buong potensyal niya sa pag-arte bilang dramatikong actor. Nakuha niya ang parangal na “Breakthrough Performance by an Actor” sa “1st Golden Screen Awards” noong 2004 at naging nominado siya bilang “Best Supporting Actor” sa Gawad Urian 2004.
Ang iba pa niyang parangal ay “Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Top 10 Bachelors of 2007” at “GMA Kapuso’s Sexiest Male Idol, Viewers’ Choice Awards, 2005”.

Melanie Marquez received her Business Management diploma the other day during the IAME (International Academy of Management and Economics) graduation rites held at the Centennial Hall of The Manila Hotel. It completed Melanie’s happiness that her eldest son, Manuelito Lapid, came home to be at his mom’s graduation. Melanie’s other children were also present, along with her brother, former Parañaque Mayor Joey Marquez. By the way, Melanie graduated cum laude! It was also a touching moment when Manuelito conferred a medal on his mom at the graduation.

(Asked if he saw his father, Senator Lito Lapid, in Las Vegas, Manuelito’s answer was no, "but I saw him during the first Pacquiao–Morales fight." Since that time, they haven’t communicated, Manuelito said. But he was hoping he could catch up with him when he got back in Las Vegas last Nov. 21. Manuelito was joined by Melanie and her two youngest sons, Adam and Abraham, on his return to the US.)

In her speech, Melanie stressed that to be educated was her priority in life. She read many books to learn more about life, although she also learned a lot from her parents, she said. Her father, the late movie director Artemio Marquez, taught her to be humble and not to be easily hurt. Through the years, it helped that Melanie also had a great sense of humor that sustained her charm and be an interesting person.

Because it was really her dream to have a college degree, because she believes education is the only source of strength, she quietly pursued this dream when she had the chance to do so. At IAME, she was an active student (although she got into module classes to fit her work schedule). She’s also an active member of their church (they are Mormons), a devoted wife and mother, a career-oriented woman, and a good friend.

Now that she has graduated from college, it doesn’t mean she’ll stop learning. Educating myself will always be an adventure for me, she said, even as she gave out this advice: "Love what you do, be honest in all your dealings..."

To spice up her speech, she related an anecdote about a foreigner asking for her calling card. "I was so offended and hurt," she said. "Why was he asking for my calling card? I am not a call girl!" The audience laughed. They laughed even louder when Melanie ended her speech with one of her trademark lines: "Don’t judge me, I’m not a book!"

Melanie thanked her family for their support. She also thanked her colleagues and friends, her media friends and even her detractors, "for being a part of me, and for being instruments of my success."

Ever since she won as Miss International in l979, Melanie has attained success after success. She also became the only Filipina who made it as a Ford Supermodel and New York Face. Her life story was an open book and every word she says and every move she makes is subject to scrutiny and criticism. She dreamt of having a low-profile life but it wasn’t meant to be. Her romances were much touted and publicized, until finally she met her loving husband, Adam Lawyer, a lawyer by profession, with whom she has two sons, in addition to four children from earlier romantic liasons. Melanie wants to have one more child by next year.

By the way, it’s not because she’s a beauty queen that Melanie was chosen by Jim Acosta, president and CEO of Psalmstre Enterprises, Inc. to be the celebrity endorser of the growing company of New Placenta Beauty Products, but because she fits the concept of the product as anti-aging and skin whiteing beauty solution. She laid her cards and did not ask for anything more. She wanted to help and promote the only Philippine beauty products that she’s endorsing. She is recognized that she gets the "masa" crowd for the products she’s endorsing. Melanie is almost always present in the company’s events and promotions either in Metro Manila or even in the provinces. She’s also a hands-on consultant to Psalmstre Eterprises, Inc.

Maxene Magalona enjoys showbiz but education comes first

Sa taping ng Homeboy last May 29 ay nakausap ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang 20-year-old daughter ni Francis Magalona na si Maxene Magalona. Naniniwala ang young actress sa kahalagahan ng edukasyon kaya naman mas inuuna niya ito kaysa pag-aartista.



Ani Maxene, "Education is very important kasi 'yong showbiz career, hindi naman 'yan forever. Kailangan mayroon ka ring fallback na puwede mong gamitin in the real world. Siyempre hindi ka naman forever sikat, hindi ka naman forever magkakaroon ng projects. So kailangan mayroon ka rin magamit to earn a living in the future."



Alam ng young actress na hindi nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral ang kanyang mga magulang, pero hindi ito ang dahilan kaya gusto niyang makapagtapos. Naniniwala si Maxene na kahit hindi nakapagtapos ang isang tao ay mayroon din itong pagkakataon na magtagumpay sa gusto nitong mangyari sa buhay. Ginawa nga niyang halimbawa ang kanyang amang si Francis M. na hanggang ngayon ay sikat pa rin bilang musical artist and TV host.



"We don't judge people who don't finish their schooling kasi alam naman natin na kahit di ka nakapagtapos ay kaya mo pa ring abutin kung ano 'yong gusto mong abutin. But for me, I just want to be able to finish para may opportunity," paliwanag ni Maxene.

Isang taon at kalahati pa ang bubunuin nito para matapos ang kanyang kursong AB Social Sciences sa Ateneo de Manila. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit marami siyang tinatanggihang offers bilang karagdagan sa kanyang weekly sitcom na Daddy Di Do Du ng GMA-7 at M-ZET Productions.

"Marami but I don't regret it kasi para sa akin, mas gusto ko talaga ang mag-aral, not because I look down on the showbiz industry. Feeling ko lang, 'yon ang mas gusto kong gawin," sabi niya.



Sa kabila nito, nilinaw ni Maxene na nage-enjoy siya sa pagiging artista at gusto niya ang daigdig ng showbiz.

Dagdag pa niya, "It's just that noong in-offer sa akin ang mga projects before, they were asking kung puwede di muna ako mag-enroll. Hindi ko naman puwedeng gawin 'yon kasi katatanggap lang sa akin sa Ateneo and sayang naman."



Nilinaw rin ni Maxene na hindi bawal ang pag-aartista kasabay ang pag-aaral sa Ateneo.

"It's just that, first time ko pa lang magka-college noon," sabi niya. "Kung pagsasabayin ko ang pag-aaral at showbiz, feeling ko hindi ko kakayanin. Pero ngayon na magfu-fourth year na ako ay puwede na akong tumanggap ng mga projects and shows kasi kaya ko naman."



Hindi man kasali sa Dean's List si Maxene, masaya naman ang young actress dahil matataas ang kanyang grades.

"I got A's, I got B's. Mostly sa foreign languages, mataas talaga 'yong grades ko. Sa Pilipino, magaling ako. I can say na ako 'yong student na hindi man pang-Suma Cum Laude, pero talagang masipag ako pagdating sa studies ko," pagmamalaki pa niya.



Inamin din ni Maxene na may boyfriend na siya.



"I have a boyfriend now, four years na kami," sabi niya. "My Mom [Pia Magalona] knows about it. My Dad knows about it. Okay naman kami. His name is Ruel de Vera. He studies at ICAM, it's a culinary school but he took up Business in Entrepreneur School of Asia."

Rica Peralejo excitedly tells PEP (Philippine EntertainmentPortal) about her new career—a college freshman at the Ateneo de ManilaUniversity.

She happily narrates, "I remember distinctly that lastJanuary, the girl from Ateneo na tinanungan ko kung kailan lalabas ‘yong[Ateneo College Entrance Test] results, sabi niya baka February 14. And then Isaid bago ako matulog, sabi ko, ‘Lord, I came by faith na ito na ‘yongpa-Valentine's mo sa akin.' I slept na.

"And when I woke up, first text I got from my mom was‘CONGRATS!'—all caps. And then I knew right away kung ano ‘yon. Confirmed napumasa nga ako, Creative Writing."

The 26-year-old actress added, "Kinabahan pa ako. ‘Yongnilagay kong second choice, Psychology. Noong na-pass ko na, doon ko langnaisip na, ‘Hay naku, ang syonga-syonga mo naman, o! ‘Yon pangquota course ang nilagay mo sa second choice!' Sabi ko, 'baka ito pa ‘yong reasonkung bakit hindi pa ako makapasa!'"

GOING BACK TO SCHOOL. Rica admits that she is veryexcited to go back to school.

"It has always been my dream, more than being famous oranything else. I'd be a student talaga. Parang ako nga kung magkakaroon ako ngheaven, it would look like campus grounds. You know kasi, I'm so much of astudent. I'm a learner. I'm very young inside," she explains.

She added, "It's something that I really want my kids to seeabout me. You know, they can take everything away from you, but the knowledgethat you have, the education—and it's very important the kind of school you'rein, the values of that school, if they revere to the God you worship, di ba?‘Yon yung very important sa akin."

Rica takes a more jolly tone.

"Grabe ‘yong dream ko talaga! Grabe ‘yong fire inside of meto go back to school kasi, e! E, I never got the chance lang," she exclaims.

Rica explains that her whole high school life is verydifferent than most people.

"I was under home study for two years, and the other two years Itook PEPT [Philippine Educational Placement Test]. So can you imagine, fouryears of no formal schooling and I passed Ateneo! I'm like, ‘Wait, this is clearly not me!'" she managed tojoke.

CAREER VS. SCHOOL. Rica currently stars in ABS-CBN's SineseryePresents: Palimos ng Pag-ibig, which will premiere on March 5. The soapopera will run for six weeks.

She says her career will have to take a backseat when the school year starts.

She explained, "I'll be very honest, if they want tonegotiate with me and my schedule, why not? But starting June, my life is goingto be school. If they want to be second or after that, I don't want to beunfair also, 'di ba?

"Hindi naman ako magko-commit sa isang bagay na hindi namanpala ako puwedeng mag-commit 100 percent. If they're willing to make me commit 30 percentlang, I'm blessed."

Rica reiterates how important education is for her.

"It's not a fallback. Pag-aartista is my fallback. It's theother way around," she stressed.
"I'm always gonna be an artista. I'm alwaysgoing to be a performer, but I'm pretty sure that my purpose is way beyondthis. God is not limiting me. Why should I limit myself, 'di ba?" ended Rica.

Ayon kay Sam, as role model ng mga kabataan, isa sa ipo-promote nila ay ang anti-smoking and anti-drugs. Honestly, Sam admitted that he used to smoke, pero natigil na niya ito, and drugs are a no-no for him. Kahit pa nga naging isyu na kaya raw siya mukhang ngarag ngayon ay dahil involved daw siya sa ganitong bisyo.
"I smoke sa role ko sa indie film na ginagawa ko ngayon, sa Cul de Sac, but sa role ko lang. I used to smoke before, dati nung PBB [Pinoy Big Brother] days but I quit smoking after that.
"I'm 'No' to drugs at all, I will never do that. 'Pag kasi wala kang tulog, you will really look haggard, but ganyan talaga. That's part of showbiz na you'll lack sleep because of work. Good thing hindi na masyado ngayon. Before kasi, I'm doing movies, 'tapos I have teleseryes. But ngayon, mas okey na," pagtatapos ni Sam.

Marvin Agustin = he took up a business course here but he didn't finish his degree and took up photography instead in other school.


YEAR 2002
John Prats = he took up BS Business Administration major in Business and Information Technology during his 1st year. Then now 3rd year, shifted to BS Entrepreneurship.

Francis Ricafort (model/former actor)= he's now 3rd year taking up BS Business Administration major in Marketing.


YEAR 2003
Camille Prats = she 1st took up BS Mass Communication. Now, 2nd year, shifted to BS Business Administration major in Marketing.

Angelica Panaganiban = she finished her 1st year with the course BS Mass Communication but she stopped this school year because of her hectic skeds (tapings & shootings).

carlos agassi used to be enrolled in DLSU. psyc yata. pero hanggang ngayon, hindi pa sya graduate.

si champagne morales din. very hindi sikat and kakairirtang artista before, DLSU din.

VJ iya villana, DLSU, incoming 2nd year, taking up psyc din.

di drew arellano graduated from DLSU din. business course e.

is it true na si heart and karel, CSB na? please confirm!

Nope po, di taga-CSB si Heart but she has a sister who goes there. Walang time si Heart ngayon to go to college e Very busy with her tapings pero plan nya to study sa States in two years time
